Youth Involved in Political Activism

Something I have personally noticed is the increase of student activists. Now more than ever people are getting involved in helping shape progress for their community. There is something about the feeling that 'I made a difference' that cannot be compared to anything else.

Jesus, a student at Georgia State University, is very active in making a difference for his community. He says, "Atlanta is a hub for political activism of the South." He goes on to say "It is easy to find a group that is working on an issue that will suit your fancy."

Currently, Jesus is working on forming a labor union at GSU and in the midst of planning a demonstration to catch the attention of administrators.

There is a fresh outlook on bettering the community. Especially with things like the U.S. Census on people's minds and igniting people's desire to help shape their community. During his campaign, President Barack Obama presented us with an idea of 'hope' to be restored in today's world.

Are you a political activist and why? If not, is there an issue you are passionate about and would consider fighting for?

  1. I am a political activist, however, more inactive than I like. I would love to be more active but because of my busy schedule,my political involvment seems to fall short.

I believe the main reason for the rising political interest in our generation is due to the rising animosity spurred by the feeling of being slighted by our government. The more we learn as college students and adults, the more we understand how unfair things have become.

For example, the university system's drastic budget cuts has a direct effect on students. As concerned members of the community it is our obligation to let our objections be known.

Also, I belive that the feeling of "I made a difference," however small it may be, is awesomely gratifying.

  2. I think that I like to think I am a politcal activist. The more I start to get into politics the more I realize I don't know that much about specifc issues to really make a solid judgement call.

If there was an issue I would like to get more involved in, it would be the school budget cuts. I don't see how taking money away from education is a smart idea. It is essentially dumbing down our youth, thus our future.

  3. I would like to be a political activist but don't have the time. I wouldn't say that I find politics interesting, but rather the sociology of the problem. There are a lot of problems that could be easily fixed if people would stop being so stubborn and selfish.
